UNLV completes first winning season in club history!

A weekend shootout culminated in UNLV's best ever season and highest division finish. A Saturday night game saw Cal State Fullerton charging hard to avenge a 2007 rout by the rebels. There were several lead changes throughout, but the momentum shifted irrevocabley in the third quarter when UNLV's defense held Fullerton to a single goal. Senior captain Neil Fray shouldered the scoring load with 7 points and 2 assists as the Rebels eked out a 2 point win.

Sunday's game against Irvine was the Rebels' best ever late series performance and an awesome end to a great season. In a reversal of the previous game, UNLV looked to pay back the Anteaters after an 11 goal blowout in 2007. Veterans Fray and Brad Spitek combined for 5 goals and 10 assists to complement 8 points and 9 assists from freshmen Joey Fuentez and Turner Krueger. UNLV's relentless attack payed off with a 16-5 victory over the 2007 division champion.

The Rebels finish the season at 5-3, and 3-1 in their division, one game behind 2008 champion, 4-0 Biola. The undermanned team showed amazing resiliency after starting the season 0-2, rallying to a 5-1 finish for the season. Aside from leading scorers Fuentez, Fray, Spitek, and Kruger, the team enjoyed season long scoring copntributions from Chris Collins, Kyle Slichko, James Yurka, Thomas Stewart, Eric Ruppel, and Paul Weintraub. The undersized but hard-nosed defense battled all year behind anchors Jon Cohen and Andy Wilcox.

Congratulations to head coach Matt Cutia, assistant coach Pete Haynes, and all the players on a spectacular season!

The Rebels returned from a long northern road trip with their first victory of the season! Under assistant coach Pete Haynes, the UNLV offense exploaded for 19 goals against San Jose State. The balanced attack saw points from six different players, including four huge goals from junior midfielder Brad Spitek.

After a great Saturday performance, the Rebels were blindsided by daylight savings time, arriving at UCSC minutes before face off. Short handed, fatigued, and lacking a warmup, the Rebels played the Slugs to the wire before falling in overtime, 12-13. Freshman Joey Fuentez led the scoring with 6 goals and 3 assists. Congratulations to the team for a great effort and their first victory! Game summaries here and here.
